Borussia Dortmund forward, Erling Braut Haaland is on course to break a Champions League goalscoring record should he net a goal against Sevilla on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old since his first appearance in the Champions League has netted 18 goals in just 13 appearances. As such should he score a goal against Sevilla in Dortmund’s second leg clash against Sevilla, the Norwegian international is set to become the quickest player ever to score 20 goals in fewer games, potentially obliterating the current best total.
Holding the current record for being the quickest player to have scored 20 goals in fewer UCL games, Harry Kane’s incredible feat is in limbo as Halaand could beat it by a huge margin having hit his 18 in just 13 appearances, with eight in just five matches this campaign, so far.
Kane beat the likes of Del Piero and Ruud van Nistelrooy who previously held the record after netting 20 goals in 26 and 27 games respectively.
However, the lethal Norwegian forward has a better chance of breaking the record and Del Piero in an interview said, “Records are made to be beaten.”
“There is a football that leads to playing more and scoring more.
“But you have to do it and the numbers of this guy [Haaland] are impressive.”
